Field to represent England at European Championships

Norfolk’s Rebecca Field has been selected as one of the four individuals to represent England at the European Bowls Championships in October 2015.

Together with her other English teammates (Amy Stanton, Worcs, Ash Caress, Lincs and Alex Walton, Cambs) Field will make up a ladies pairs and mixed fours team to compete against other European nations at the Ra'anana and Ramat Gan Bowling Clubs in Tel-Aviv, Israel.

Field, most known for her exploits on the indoor carpet last year translated this success onto the outdoor greens last summer, winning the English ladies national 2-wood singles and under 25 pairs championships.

Field also features in the Elite Squad who will be battling for places in the Atlantic Rim Games in 2015 and World Championships in 2016.

“I’m delighted” were Field’s first words following the announcement. “It’s been a whirlwind few weeks – we started March up in Stanley for the indoor British Isles championships where England won the overall team trophy before I joined up with club mates Becky and Louise to take the British Isles triples and this really is the icing on the cake. We’ve still got a few weeks of the indoor season left – next week we go back to defend our national triples crown but as soon as the season closes I’ll be getting out on the greens to get as much practice in as I can. It’s a dream to represent your country at any level but to be included in the Elite Squad with a chance of going to the World Championships is something I’ve dreamed of.”

In the lead up to the outdoor season Bowls England has also announced their selections for the Junior International trials where Norfolk is represented. Jake Willgress, who successfully followed in his brother Wayne’s footsteps to represent England at junior level last season will be joined by  James Segalo and Dan Seabourne at the men’s under 25 trial and Rebecca Field will feature in the ladies equivalent.

Norfolk Ladie’s Bowls Association have announced their team for the Johns Trophy trial to take place on Sunday 17 May at Wymondham Dell BC. The county will be hoping to go a step further this year after losing out to Northamptonshire in a close fought quarter final last season.
